■ Edwin Co., Ltd. (read as Edwin, English: EDWIN Co., Ltd.) is a Japanese fashion brand and textile manufacturer, mainly focusing on denim materials.
TUNEMI, which developed from the trade name of Tsunei Yonehachi Shoten in the 1950s, imported used jeans from America and supplied them to the market. In the 1960s, it began manufacturing and selling jeans using its own unique manufacturing method for the first time in Japan.
The brand name "EDWIN" is an anagram, created by reversing the "D" and "E" of denim (DENIM) and inverting "NIM" 180 degrees to become "WIN".
It has the meaning of "Edo" (the former name of Tokyo) and "win".
In the popular corner "Kijin Henjin Taikai" (Oddball Contest) of the NTV program "TV Jockey Sunday Grand Parade," the winner was awarded Edwin jeans every time.
Also, for a time, they established factories in America and Italy, producing the MADE IN U.S.A. series and the MADE IN ITALY series, but this was discontinued after a few years.
The license plate of their company cars is "503," which is based on the company's representative brand, and the car body color is also designed to resemble denim.
